What are some of the things you need to do in order to prepare for divorce?

Good divorce planning is critical to a good divorce outcome. There are four basic things you need to keep in mind.

One: you want to have a copy of all your financial assets and especially all the financial assets of your spouse. Records have a way of disappearing after a party has filed for divorce.

Two: if you had children you’re going to want to keep a copy of any praise that your spouse has given you regarding your care of the children. It’s funny after you file for divorce how many bad things your wife or your husband will say about you when it comes to caring for your children. When you go from being a committed parent to the drunk alcoholic who can’t stop beating your kids.

Three: you’re going to need to decide whether or not you want to keep the martial home and whether you want to stay in it or if you want to move out. This is an important question that’s going to depend on your current financial position and the financial position of your spouse.

And finally, just like your spouse may bring issues about your parenting skills, you need to aware of any parental deficiencies of your spouse. Maybe your spouse has drug and alcohol issues that you need to be aware of when crafting a parenting plan for the final resolution of your divorce case.
