Visitation

We help parents stay parents.

Unless the court system has installed restrictions, Washington law dictates that all parents have the right to visitation. In the event that your spouse has custody rights, and is keeping you from visiting your children, contact The Seattle Family Law Group.

We’re experts at helping clients deal with custody rulings, visitation problems, paternity actions, enforcement and defending against allegations of child neglect or abuse. Having a lawyer at your side can be difference between keeping your visitation rights as they were originally mandated, or losing access to your children.

Interference with or restrictions on visitation.

After custody or visitation has been awarded, the other parent cannot refuse access to your children or deny you the right to see them. The only way this can happen is if a judge or commissioner determines you are a danger to your child. Should this problem occur, it’s best to document everything – preferably with a witness present.

When restrictions are placed on visitations, it’s usually due to some of the situations which are listed below:

  • Abandonment
  • Domestic violence
  • Alcohol or drug abuse
  • Emotional abuse
  • Relocating without proper consent
  • Putting unjust restrictions on the other parent’s access to the child

If you or someone you know is facing a visitation or any custody-related matter, contact a Seattle family lawyer from our firm immediately to discuss your options.
