A new HBO documentary focuses on a child’s view of divorce, and offers parents some very important advice about helping children avoid the bitter fallout of divorce.

The document is titled Don’t Divorce Me!  Kids Rules for Parents on Divorce.  It debuted recently on HBO, and is expected to be aired several times in the month of October.  It’s very important for divorce lawyers as well as Seattle parents who are considering a divorce or going through a divorce, to watch this show.  The advice that some of the children put across is extremely pertinent, and very important.

For instance, one of the children in the show clearly advises his parents to make it clear to him that it is not his fault that his parents are getting a divorce.  Another child asks his parents not to take out their anger with each other, on him.  One of the best pieces of advice from children in the program –   Don’t make me choose.

For many parents, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that it is not just the 2 of them going through the divorce, but also the children who are as much a part of the experience as the parents are.  Unfortunately, many parents feel very stressed when they are in the middle of a divorce.  There are many details to take care of.  There are new accommodations to look for and changes in your financial and banking arrangements to complete.

All of this can take a lot of time and attention, and unfortunately, children feel left out, and neglected during the process.

If you’re going through a stressful divorce, ask your divorce lawyer to recommend family therapy or counseling resources.
